Kick back and relax at this lush landscape.

Hungry Plants
Terminal 3 Butterfly Garden, Transit Mall (Level 2)

A bunch of very hungry plants have landed at Changi Airport Terminal 3!!! The world’s first airport Butterfly Garden is now home to about 200 hungry carnivorous plants from about 30 species of Nepenthes, Tropical Pitcher Plants from South-east Asia, and especially, Singapore.

Come, see and be enthralled by this special display that showcases the various forms of pitcher traps these hungry plants have evolved to trap and ingest insects and other small animals.

Nepenthes are plants that have adapted to growing in places where the soil is poor in nutrients, and have evolved myriads ways of trapping and ‘feeding’ on insects and small animals to obtain nutrients.

Also popularly known as ‘Monkey Cups’ from the fact that monkeys have been seen to drink water from them in the rainforests, the pitchers are not simply water reservoirs for the plant in times of drought, but a complex passive insect traps, which secrete nectar to attract insects, trap them and metabolize them with acidic digestive fluid to obtain nutrient not available in the poor soils the plants grow in. The size of the pitcher varies and some species are large enough to hold up to two litres of water!

The butterflies in the garden are safe because they are too big to fall into the insect traps. Small creeping and crawling insects are the usual preys. The Nepenthes help in trapping ants, small lizards and snails which are harmful to the butterflies and the pupae.

Orchid Garden & Koi Pond
Terminal 2, Transit Mall (Level 2)

Be enthralled by the mixture of colours, shapes and sizes of orchids our Orchid Garden offers. More than 15 species of orchids are displayed on different natural structures, including a number of them tied on natural driftwood overhanging the Koi Pond. Be sure to look out for Singapore’s national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim that is occasionally on display.

Sunflower Garden
Terminal 2, Transit Mall (Level 3)

(Please be informed that the Sunflower Garden is temporarily closed for upgrading works).

Experience Vincent van Gogh's "Sunflower" paintings in real life when you visit our very own Sunflower Garden! Be spellbound by the happy and cheerful mood portrayed by the sunflowers as you visit the sundial and navigate through the maze.
