Since the iChangi app was launched in 2010, it has been downloaded by millions for the handy airport and flight information it provides to users on the go. The app has gone through several updates making it a must-have “travel wallet” for Changi’s passengers; and its latest refresh will please the voracious readers among us – the iChangi app is now an e-reader too.
Passengers will now have access to the latest editions of 12 international magazines and two newspapers across various genres, covering current affairs, sports, travel, food and lifestyle. Time, ESPN The Magazine, Vogue, National Geographic Traveller, bon appétit and ELLE Décor are some of the titles. The newspaper titles include New York Times and TODAY.

To read these publications, users would have to log into the Changi Airport wi-fi when they are in the transit area, go to the ‘My Changi’ function on the iChangi app, and tap on the new icon ‘My Library’. The magazines are available for a full download onto users’ devices, so that publications can be read throughout their plane journey.
“We wanted to provide travellers with seamless access to news and infotainment as they move from the ground to the air,” says Shirley Tay from the Experience Creation team. “We will run this initiative for six months and will decide whether to continue with this service after that based on how popular it is with travelers.”
The e-reader function is just one of many updates over the past year, as iChangi has had several new functions introduced. One of them was real-time wayfinding, using beacon technology to enable the user to navigate his or her way around the airport – like an ‘indoor GPS’ system.
Another update was the incorporation of the e-version of the Changi Rewards card, providing members of Changi Airport’s loyalty programme greater convenience in accumulating reward points for their purchases at the airport. Following the revamp of the Changi Rewards programme in April 2018, members can also redeem their points for e-vouchers and car park charges through the app.
One of iChangi’s key updates was the introduction of One Changi ID, which integrates all of Changi Airport's platforms under a single user login. Users now have the convenience of accessing Changi sites such as e-commerce site, iShopChangi and Changi Rewards from the same platform with the same ID and password.
“Seamless travel is a key differentiator for airports nowadays,” adds Shirley. “We are continually looking to improve our airport operations – from entertainment offerings all the way to clearance processes.”
