Happy, healthy, and well-engaged employees not only thrive personally and professionally but contribute to a strong company culture. Changi Airport Group (CAG) recognises that employee wellness is an essential ingredient to the organisation’s success and prioritises employee well-being as a key tenet in its people policy.

Here’s an insider’s look at five ways CAG creates a holistic environment to care for its employees’ well-being.

1. A hybrid work arrangement provides flexibility

Employees enjoy freshly brewed coffee and tea on common in-office days.

The Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly changed the way people work, with hybrid work arrangements  the new norm. Employees are increasingly benefitting from more flexibility in their work-life schedule while staying collaborative and productive at work, be it online or on-site.

Recognising the benefits of remote working to employees’ well-being, CAG set a three-day on-site and two-day work-from-home hybrid work arrangement post-pandemic. This allows our office-based employees to stay nimble in the way they work while ensuring business and operations continue to run smoothly.

On common work-in-office days, CAG offers complimentary barista-made drinks, themed snacks, and special events on a myriad of topics, from health to art to innovation, to boost interaction. These activities set the stage for employees to build much-needed social connections at the workplace, even as they enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement.

2. Company-funded corporate retreats for colleages to bond

Both local and overseas retreats are popular among employees as they build camaraderie.

Taking time away from work to have fun together helps to strengthen team spirit. CAG encourages teams to set aside time beyond the desk to bond, be it at local activities or overseas corporate retreats.

Over the years, teams have ventured to countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and even Korea, among others. The retreats are often accompanied by novel activities such as amazing races, cooking classes, self-defence lessons and cultural workshops.

The opportunity to get to know colleagues better and create shared memories builds camaraderie. It promotes better work relationships, fosters a sense of belonging, and improves employee well-being.

3. A workspace infused with biophilic elements to uplift employees' well-being

CAG’s offices have a variety of spaces designed with green elements to enhance employee’s sense of well-being

Physical surroundings have a powerful impact on one’s well-being. In designing a workplace that is calming, versatile, and aligned to the strategic goals of productivity and collaboration, CAG creates the environment for employees to perform their best at work.

CAG’s offices are designed with the same principles as its award-winning airport terminals. Abundant greenery and natural light feature prominently in CAG’s workplace. These biophilic elements alleviate stress, uplift employee’s mood, and even foster creativity.

Within the office, there is a variety of spaces to support productivity and collaboration. A good mix of enclosed and open spaces are available, such as quiet rooms to focus on individual tasks, or big rooms for team meetings. There are also breakout areas for a quick tête-à-tête or easy brainstorming chats among colleagues.

4. Curated programmes to support employees' physical, emotional and financial health

CAG holds regular events to encourage employees to adopt healthy habits and mindsets.

CAG has a unique ‘Healthy Habits Happy Life’ (HHHL) programme to help employees lead a healthy lifestyle. This includes physical fitness, emotional health, and financial well-being.

Beyond the company-sponsored health screening package, employees can attend a range of thoughtfully curated health workshops and sign up for fun activities to build healthy habits and mindsets. Recent activities include rock climbing to build physical strength and resilience, gardening to get in touch with nature, and will-writing for legacy planning.

For employees’ convenience, the HHHL programme can be accessed via an in-house app for easy access and sign-ups. Employees can even track their own health scorecard. Incentives such as sports accessories and vouchers are given out to encourage employee participation, these are redeemable through the app as well.

5. A work culture that is always looking to improve with annual Employee Engagement Surveys

CAG fosters an open culture where employees feel safe to voice their views. Throughout the year, town halls and fireside chats with senior management are regularly held to facilitate open dialogue and informal sharing.

To get an accurate pulse on employees’ well-being, CAG captures feedback and suggestions via an annual Employee Engagement Survey. Participation in the survey is highly encouraged and valued. Employees can provide ideas on how to make CAG a better place to work. This forms part of the crucial process in creating a positive and engaging employee experience and allows employees to thrive together at the workplace.
