Changi Airports International signs landmark agreement with Kazakhstan to support Astana’s aviation hub ambitions

Changi Airports International (CAI) has signed a cooperation framework agreement with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Akimat of Astana, advancing plans to strengthen Astana’s position as a major international aviation hub in Central Asia.

The agreement that has been inked establishes two key areas of collaboration with CAI:

  1. A new airport for Astana – Planning for a new airport that advances Kazakhstan's vision to build the capital’s transit and aviation hub capabilities.

  2. Growth of Astana International Airport – Airport operations and management, alongside opportunities in hub development, infrastructure and talent development.

CAI looks forward to partnering Kazakhstan in unlocking Astana’s potential as a strategic gateway linking Central Asia with the world. Both parties are currently working on the partnership and implementation details.

The agreement combines Kazakhstan’s long-term aviation ambitions with CAI’s experience across more than 90 airports in over 35 countries, drawing on the expertise of Changi Airport.

In 2025, Changi Airport handled around 70 million passengers and more than two million tonnes of cargo, connecting Singapore with over 170 cities worldwide.
