Building culture to strengthen future

Week-long learning festival drives home innovation culture

To nurture the habit of continuous learning, Changi Airport Group (CAG) organises annual learning festivals (Learnfest) for its staff, designed to encourage employees to learn in a fun and relaxed setting, and to create a conducive environment to support active community sharing. The theme for this year - “Start Something Today”,highlighted the need for CAG to continually reinvent itself to stay ahead in today’s fast-changing environment, and to encourage staff to bring innovative ideas into action.

Every employee is an entrepreneur and innovator

This year, the organising committee invited companies such as Grab, Airbnb and Carousell to speak at the event. Staff got the inside scoop on how companies that have disrupted markets entirely, learn to propel new business models to better meet consumer needs. The sharing also offered the inside take on why CAG needs to innovate and transform for the future.

The speaker sessions were well attended, with the audience seizing the opportunity to ask burning questions and receive insights to what makes these companies tick, and how they innovate to stay ahead.

Getting in touch with the latest technology

Tapping into the knowledge and expertise of leading companies, CAG staff had the opportunity to learn more about up-and-coming technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented and virtual reality, cloud computing, analytics, and blockchain technology.

In a session with Accenture, the speaker shared examples of how enterprises embarked on their digital transformation journey, and even brought along a robot with AI capabilities that could answer questions about Changi Airport accurately, demonstrating the possibility of using AI in a customer service setting. The highlight of the demonstration was when the robot was asked to dance, and it entertained the audience as it dropped down to the beat of “Oppa Gangnam Style” in the song’s signature move.

Besides informative tech-talks and innovation workshops, CAG staff also had the opportunity to try their hands on some of these technologies from companies such as Accenture, Samsung and Idemia. One of the booths which attracted most staff featured an augmented reality shopping experience that lets you look at yourself in clothes off the rack without trying them on physically.

Ending on a sweet note

The week-long Learnfest culminated in an engaging panel session with Senior Management to discuss ways to build an environment in CAG that continually challenges employees to think out-of-the-box. As Learnfest wrapped up, staff left energised with a renewed never-stop learning and innovating attitude, to proactively translate their innovative ideas into action.
