We recommend activating your Travel eSIM on the day of your flight departure, while you still have an internet connection. You will need Wi-Fi or another internet connection to scan your eSIM QR code. You may also need to restart your mobile device after arriving at your destination.

  • For most destinations, travel eSIM data validity is counted in 24-hour periods from the time of activation. Taiwan (ChungHwa), Thailand and Vietnam eSIM plans are different: their validity is counted by calendar day, starting from the day of activation.

E.g. A 1-day Taiwan (ChungHwa), Thailand or Vietnam eSIM’s validity starts from 0000hr to 2359hr only. eSIM activation at 1400hr would allow the user to have data connection until 2359hr on the same day.

Activation typically takes up to 30 minutes, depending on your device model and internet connection. Please keep your device connected to a stable Wi-Fi or mobile data network during activation.

You may see these statuses before you reach your destination. This can happen because the Travel eSIM is intended for use in the selected destination country. It should connect properly once your device detects the destination country’s supported mobile network after arrival.

Turn on Mobile Data and Data Roaming for your Travel eSIM after you arrive at your destination. To avoid roaming charges on your personal line, turn off your local telco SIM or make sure mobile data is set to use the Travel eSIM.

We do not recommend setting your APN before arrival. If APN setup is needed, update the APN settings only after you arrive at your destination so your device can connect to the correct local network.

For most destinations, your eSIM validity is counted in 24-hour periods from the time of activation.

For example, your 4-day Japan eSIM plan will last for exactly 4 days from the moment it's activated, following the 24-hour period format. If you activate your eSIM at 1:33pm on 1 Jan 2026, it will expire at 1:32pm on 5 Jan 2026.

Only Taiwan (ChungHwa), Thailand and Vietnam eSIM plans reset at 12:00am local time. Their validity is based on the calendar day of activation, not the exact time of activation.

For example, if you activate a 3-day Thailand eSIM at 2:30pm on 1 Jan 2026, it will expire at 11:59pm on 3 Jan 2026. This means the plan is not valid for a full 72 hours; it is instead counted from the calendar day of activation.

Yes, you can use your Travel eSIM to hotspot, as long as your mobile device supports this function.

Yes, you may add another data plan to your existing Travel eSIM.

However, if you already have an active or existing data plan for the same destination, you will not be able to reload another plan for that same destination onto the same eSIM. In this case, please purchase a new Travel eSIM for that destination.

No. Travel eSIMs only provide mobile data, so SMS sending and receiving are not supported.

No. Each Travel eSIM can only be installed and activated on one device. Once it has been activated, it cannot be transferred to another device.

To remove an eSIM from your phone:

  1. Go to your phone’s “Settings”
  2. Click on “Connections”.
  3. Select “SIM Card Manager/Cellular *”
  4. Tap on the eSIM
  5. Select “Remove Mobile Data/Cellular Plan”

*Depending on your mobile model.

Travel eSIMs can only be installed and activated once. If you remove the eSIM from your mobile device, it will no longer be valid for use. If you do not need to use it temporarily, you may disable or pause the eSIM on your device instead. Please note that once the eSIM is activated, the plan validity period will continue and cannot be paused.

You can check your remaining data balance in Changi App under your Travel eSIM order details. Please note that your device’s own data usage counter may differ from the eSIM data balance shown in Changi App.

Some areas may not have 5G* coverage. In these areas, your connection may switch to 4G or a lower bandwidth network. Your device should reconnect to 5G automatically when you are back in a 5G-covered area.

*5G data speed is only applicable for 5G-enabled mobile devices. Additionally, older mobile models may not perform at the desired speed, as compared to newer ones.

The data usage shown on your mobile device may differ from the eSIM data tracking because your device’s data usage display can take up to 24 hours to update.

You can view accurate data tracking for the Travel eSIM directly in Changi App.

Travel eSIM data packages provide wide internet coverage in the selected country. However, signal strength may vary in some areas, including coastal areas.

e.g. Osaka & Hokkaido coastal areas.

The QR code for an eSIM is only valid for 60 days from the date of purchase. Please note that it can only be scanned once, for activation on a single mobile device*.

It is recommended to:

  • purchase the eSIM closer to your flight departure date &

  • activate the eSIM on the date of departure

*Only for eSIM compatible devices.

An eSIM is a digital version of a physical SIM card. If your phone supports eSIM, you can purchase and install the Travel eSIM through Changi App or by scanning a QR code, then connect to mobile data when you arrive at your destination.

 Apple Phones

  1. Go to Settings > General > About.
  2. Scroll down and look for an EID number, or an option such as Available SIM.
  3. If you see either of these, your iPhone supports eSIM.

Android Phones

  1. Go to Settings > Connections, Network & Internet, or Mobile Network (menu names may vary by device).
  2. Look for SIM Manager, SIMs, or Mobile Network settings.
  3. If you see an option to Add eSIM or Add Mobile Plan, your phone supports eSIM.

  By IMEI

  1. Open your phone's keypad and enter *#06#.
  2. If an EID number appears alongside your IMEI number(s), your phone supports eSIM.

Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked and support eSIM in your region to use an eSIM service.

A Travel eSIM with an unlimited data package includes a daily high-speed data allowance and unlimited lower-speed data after the high-speed allowance is used up.

The high-speed data allowance depends on the plan you purchase and activate. Once you use up the daily high-speed allowance, you can continue using data at a reduced speed of 128kbps until the allowance resets.

Example: An Australia and New Zealand unlimited data plan with 2GB high-speed data daily for 3 days gives you 2GB of high-speed data each day, plus unlimited lower-speed data at 128kbps after the daily high-speed allowance is used up.
